Adrian Thiemicke given the 2008 John Young award.
The 2008 John Young Award has been given to Adrian Thiemicke for his
significant contribution to endurance running in the County.
In addition to representing the County on numerous occasions at
cross country and road running, he has taken the time to put a lot back into the
sport in the County.
For a number of years he has acted as the team manager for the
senior cross country teams and was delighted when the men's team surprised many
of the larger counties to win the Senior Mens Inter-Counties trophy a few years
ago. In addition he manages the senior track and field teams for their annual
CAU inter-county meeting at Bedford and again has shown his delight as the team
(often small in numbers) has progressed up the ladder with success in the lower
division to mix it again with the "big guys ".
Not content with this involvement, Adrian has introduced a Grand
Prix road race series in the County to encourage Cheshire club members to
support road race events in the County. This has proved very successful and we
are seeing increased competition in these events which is helping to lift
endurance performances at senior and veteran level.
Adrian has also acted as the Permit and now licence Secretary for
events in the County, which in road running, due to a change in the system, will
significantly benefit the County financially during the present year. He is also
a licensed Official for Field events and for Endurance running.
